How to Connect SG Ready Compatible Heat Pumps with the E.ON App

What is SG Ready?

SG Ready (Smart Grid Ready) is a standardized interface for heat pumps that allows external control signals to optimize energy consumption. Heat pumps with the SG Ready label can receive signals to increase or decrease their power consumption based on grid conditions or solar availability.

Preconditions:

  • Your heat pump must have SG Ready inputs (typically two digital inputs).
  • You need a compatible relay or smart switch (e.g., Shelly) to control the SG Ready inputs.
  • The relay/switch must be connected to E.ON.

Connecting Your SG Ready Heat Pump with E.ON

  1. Connect a compatible smart relay (like Shelly) to your heat pump’s SG Ready inputs.
  2. Add the relay to E.ON.
  3. Configure the relay as an SG Ready controller in the app.

SG Ready Operating Modes

SG Ready typically offers four operating states:

State Input 1 Input 2 Description
1 OFF OFF Normal operation
2 ON OFF Blocked (e.g., during high prices)
3 OFF ON Enhanced operation (recommended)
4 ON ON Maximum power (force run)

Features and Things to Know

With SG Ready integration, you can:

  • Turn the heat pump on/off based on external signals.
  • Benefit from Autopilot features for solar and smart price optimization.

Autopilot Integration

The Autopilot can automatically send SG Ready signals to your heat pump based on:

  • Excess solar energy availability
  • Low electricity prices

This allows your heat pump to consume more energy when it’s cheapest or when you have excess solar production.
